Mindset

March is Mindset Month for Susan’s Source Blogposts. Each week in March I will be posting about a different aspect of mindset. This week is:

What Exactly is Mindset?

What are you thinking about most these days? What is your mindset on certain happenings in your life? What is mindset?

Mindset is what your mind brings to the transformation table. Our mind controls everything we do, say, feel and act. It all starts with the mind. Mindset is how you approach something based on your beliefs and values. Mindset can stay fixed and static or grow and expand.

By exploring your beliefs and values you can decide what kind of mindset you have and in what direction you want to go when you are making the changes you need to make during your constant transformation throughout life.

A fixed mindset is one in which you do not want to make changes in your approach to certain aspects of your life. This can be because your beliefs and values are strong about how you feel about the situation you are in. A fixed mindset can also be because your beliefs and values aren’t in alignment with the transformation and changes you need to be making. These beliefs and values need to be explored in order to determine if they are solidly part of you, accurate and true to your mindset. Or are they misconceptions that have been a part of your life for a long time? It’s a complicated path to navigate but one that is absolutely necessary if you wish to be successful in any successful changes you want to make in life.

A growth mindset expands you. It gets you out of the “no changes” box. A growth mindset frees you to make your journey of inward transformation and outward changes. Like fixed mindset is driven by your beliefs and values and must be solid in your approach to life.

Understanding your beliefs and values will give you a solid foundation on which you can decide how you approach any given situation, with a fixed mindset or growth mindset.

The little guy in the picture above, Scrat from the Ice Age movies, has a very fixed mindset. He truly believes he will obtain and keep the elusive acorn and never changes his mindset…beliefs and values about his success. Hence no transformation, changes, or growth in his mindset toward the situation. He continues to miss his ultimate desire and goal…the acorn!

Do you think you have a strong handle on your beliefs and values? It never hurts to explore and reevaluate them. What do you think?

More next week.
