Living the New Normal

I’ve come to realize that Living the New Normal is not a one-time thing. Living the New Normal is about change. Constant change. Adapting to change.

Most of us have grown up knowing that change is constant, but we tend to think that change is for everyone else. If we just stay in our own little cocoon we will be immune to the world changing around us. That may work for a while but eventually, something happens around us that forces us to look at and adapt to change.

This force may as small as moving into a new season of the year or as big as sudden unemployment, catastrophic illness, volcanic eruption, major weather occurrence and/or a pandemic. You get the idea. We are then forced to look at our life and our situation, make a plan for change and embrace that plan with a positive attitude. Sounds easy enough. NOT!

Life gets in the way of your plans at every turn. So you must constantly adapt and change. We long for the good old days which, by the way, only exist in our minds.

One suggestion that might help us embrace change is to stop for a moment on a regular basis. Pause, breathe and let your swirling thoughts calm down. Pick one thought or idea that seems doable and concentrate on that for a while. Let that idea help you adapt to other changes you will be making.

The cliché “go with the flow” may sound trite but I think it is going to be a crucial mantra to hold onto, as we are Living the New Normal. What do you think?
